“When we dream, our souls travel to another world. A magical world that’s connected to many other worlds. Mostly beautiful and peaceful, but there also lies dangerous ones. Malicious beings and souls of the wicked reside there, sometimes following dreamers who stray out too far in hopes of severing the connection to their body and taking possession of it!
Fortunately, there are other beings that guard us. They destroy any evil that crosses their path. Some people were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of these guardians, describing them as having the appearance of a small animal, almost bearlike. Inspired by these encounters, people created the teddy bear. Made to resemble these protectors and to remind us that we are safe.”
Here’s a little bit about me. My family is from Cambodia. Cambodia was heavily influenced by the French during the early 1900s. My name, Robert, pronounced in French is Ro-bear (with a French accent). My family shortened it to “bear” and that was my nickname growing up.
I loved drawing as a kid. Because my nickname was “bear”, I drew a lot of bears. One particular bear I kept drawing was a big headed bear with really long claws. When I created this character back in elementary school, I never thought I’d do anything with him. As I grew older, I didn’t draw as much. It didn’t even cross my mind to make a career out of it. I stopped drawing altogether. I put my drawings and imagination to the side. Now as an adult, I realized that I should’ve followed my passion.
I’m happy to say that I’m going to take that chance now. I’m bringing my childhood character back! Since I stopped drawing early on, I didn’t improve that skill. Fortunately, while in high school, I learned that I loved writing! And I still do! I’m creating and writing the story. Luckily, I have some talented artists who are helping me bring it to life. I hope you guys enjoy it. Whether this goes anywhere or not, I’m just glad I’m finally doing it! Thank you for your support!
